Work will commence tonight at Central Coast Highway, Long Jetty to install two new pedestrian refuges.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the work was a necessary safety improvement that would allow pedestrians to cross one lane of traffic at a time.
“The two pedestrian refuges will be located between Toowoon Bay Road and Gordon Road, and another near Archbold Road,” Mr Crouch said.
“This project is about keeping everyone who uses our roads as safe as possible – whether it be drivers or pedestrians – because one life lost is one too many.
“Some changes to parking on this section of Central Coast Highway will be required but these have only been made after consulting the community.
“This project forms part of a $2 million package of work from the NSW Government for Central Coast Highway at Long Jetty, delivered over three years.”
In addition to the installation of the pedestrian refuges, seven power poles will be relocated near Tuggerah Parade and Swadling Street.
These power poles will be moved further from the edge of the road to improve safety for motorists. Ausgrid will notify residents before power pole relocation works takes place.
Works commences tonight and will be carried out between 7pm and 5am Sunday to Thursday for three weeks, weather permitting.
A 40km/h reduced speed limit and lane closures will be in place during work hours. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
