With petrol prices continuing to skyrocket on the Central Coast, Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch has called on the Federal Member for Robertson and Federal Government to get real on petrol prices and start taking concrete steps to help ease cost of living burdens.
“With petrol prices now hitting a twelve-month high, the Federal Member needs to get real on delivering proper cost-of-living support to Central Coast motorists.”
Mr Crouch called out what he said was a double standard, with the Federal Member for Robertson campaigning against big oil corporations increasing petrol prices, while at the same time his own government increased the fuel excise in February 2024 to 49.6 cents per litre, putting upwards pressure on petrol prices.
“It’s all well and good for Dr. Reid to write to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and Big Oil Corporations about petrol prices, it’s just disingenuous at the same time to increase the tax on petrol which itself increases the price motorists pay at the pump.”
“If you’ve got an SUV, like many families on the Central Coast do, with an 80-litre tank you’re paying about $40 in tax each time you fill up.”
“Frankly, with a State Labor Government totally absent on cost-of-living support by trashing Active Kids vouchers and the Regional Seniors Travel Card, it’s just another kick in the cuts for local families.”
“The Federal Member needs to stop his grandstanding and actually get to work on an issue he can actually have influence on.”
“The previous Liberal Federal Government reduced the fuel excise from 44.2 cents per litre to 22.1 cents per litre in 2022 which provided immediate relief to motorists across the country, so there’s no reason why Dr. Reid and the Albanese Government can’t do the same.” said Mr Crouch.
