Central Coast Council is receiving $100,000 from Stream 1 of the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund to develop disaster resilience and support local community wellbeing.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the new funding is in addition to $100,000 that Central Coast Council received in May 2020 to implement the ‘Front Yard Fridays’ and ‘Buy Local’ campaigns.
“The NSW Government is committed to a locally led recovery to rebuild not just physical infrastructure, but also community wellbeing,” Mr Crouch said.
“Experience shows that community-led recoveries provide the best chance for people to get back on their feet and for local communities to emerge from a natural disaster with a greater level of resilience.
“This new funding will allow Council to provide support tailored to our region’s needs.”
Mr Crouch said grants of up to $300,000 are now on offer through Stream 2 of the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund.
“Suburbs on the Central Coast around Mangrove Mountain and Spencer were impacted during the Black Summer of bushfires, but businesses and the wider community also faced weeks of smoke damage and economic loss,” Mr Crouch said.
“Stream 2 provides grants between $20,000 and $300,000 to community groups, not for profit organisations and local councils for social recovery and preparedness projects, which could include education programs about how to best prepare for future hazards, or community activities that bring people together.”
This brings the total funding from the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund to over $35 million, and is administered by Resilience NSW.
