A $1.65 million safety improvement project at Memorial Avenue, Blackwall between Wyalong Road and Warwick Street has commenced this week.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the 350 metre stretch of road would be made smoother and safer for motorists.

“Memorial Avenue is the main road connecting Ettalong Beach to Woy Woy and this project consists of safety improvements to help reduce the number and severity of crashes,” Mr Crouch said.

“Work involves widening the road between Wyalong Road and Warwick Street as well as installing a new raised median.”

The work includes:

–       Installing a central concrete median to restrict right turn movements at Warwick Street,

–       Installing a right turn lane into Wallaby Street,

–       Widening the road to accommodate the new turning lane and median,

–       Improving street lighting, and

–       Clearing and trimming vegetation to allow for the road widening.

Mr Crouch said temporary traffic changes would be in place while the project is in progress.

“To ensure the work zone is safe I would encourage motorists to abide by the reduced 40 kilometre per hour speed limit and observe the lane closures during work hours,” Mr Crouch said.

Work will be delivered in three stages:

  1. One week of night work,
  2. Six weeks of day work, and
  3. Three weeks of night work.
