Traffic improvements are on the way at the Avoca Drive and Davistown Road roundabout, following a successful campaign from the 3 Villages Community Group and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch.
Mr Crouch welcomed news that Transport for NSW would make changes to line marking and permitted traffic movements on Davistown Road to increase capacity for motorists approaching Avoca Drive.
The changes will see the existing right-turn lane converted into a lane allowing motorists to turn either left or right, while the existing left lane will remain left-turn only.
This will provide two lanes for motorists turning left onto Avoca Drive towards Gosford and Erina, helping more vehicles move through the intersection during busy periods.
“This intersection has been a daily frustration for thousands of residents, with traffic regularly backing up along Davistown Road during the morning peak hour,” Mr Crouch said.
“Davistown Road is the only way in and out for the residents of Davistown, Saratoga and Yattalunga, so when traffic banks up at this roundabout there simply isn’t another option to get out of the area.
“After raising this issue with the Minister for Transport and in State Parliament, we’ve been able to secure a sensible change to get more vehicles through the roundabout and reduce queues on Davistown Road.
“I want to thank the 3 Vllages Community Group and local residents who have continued to advocate for action on this traffic problem.”
President of the 3 Villages Community Group Taia Sansom said the changes were a welcome step towards improving journeys for residents.
“The school term morning traffic at this intersection has significantly and consistently impacted everyone in the 3 villages community,” Ms Sansom said.
“We have advocated strongly for a solution to improve traffic flow, so we are pleased to see action being taken thanks to our advocacy.”
“We look forward to seeing how these changes operate once they are in place and will continue to advocate for a long-term solution to improve traffic flow across our community.”
Transport for NSW is expected to carry out the line-marking works over two nights, weather permitting.
