Volunteers across the Central Coast region have been recognised at the Volunteering Central Coast 2021 Awards Ceremony, held at Erina on Wednesday.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said award recipients were recognised for their commitment and countless hours of community service.

“The Central Coast is home to more than 46,000 volunteers and our community has a higher rate of volunteering than any other region in Australia,” Mr Crouch said.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our community, particularly in the last 12 months when COVID-19 forced rapid changes to everyone’s daily life.

“From local sporting groups and school P&Cs to environmental groups and not-for-profit organisations, volunteers are the silent army that keep the Central Coast going.”

Award recipients include:

  • Excellence in Corporate Volunteering – Nicole Doerksen, Kincumber Neighbourhood Centre
  • Excellence in Volunteer Management – Clive Moane, St Vincent de Paul
  • Young Volunteer of the Year – Jourdan Mitchell, YMCA NSW
  • Living Legend Volunteer – Roma Dowling, Toukley Neighbourhood Centre
  • Volunteer Team of the Year – Saint Joseph’s Workshop Volunteers, St Vincent de Paul
  • Volunteer of the Year – Gabrielle Grenier, Mary Macs Place

Nominations are also being accepted for State-wide awards and close on Friday, 9 July.

The Centre for Volunteering CEO Gemma Rygate said the State-wide awards are a way to thank, recognise and celebrate the efforts of NSW’s 2.4 million volunteers.

“The awards are a vital way for every one of us to say thank you for the invaluable contribution of our volunteers,” Ms Rygate said.
