Statement On Bondi Beach Terrorist Attack

We are all deeply distressed and disturbed by the antisemitic terrorist attack in Bondi that occurred on Sunday.

This was an attack on innocent people and an attack on our nation’s Jewish community, who were celebrating the first day of Hanukkah.

My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the first responders who acted with extraordinary bravery in a time of need.

In a moment of darkness, we have seen light with our community coming together to stand against antisemitism, support one another, and show that hate has no place in Australia.

As we gather with family and friends this Christmas and look ahead to the New Year, we must remember the values of kindness, respect, and love for one another.

These are the values that make our community strong, and they are stronger than fear or division that the attackers in Bondi tried to perpetrate.
