New Housing powers ahead in Gosford

Almost 40 Central Coast residents who are at risk of homelessness or on low incomes will benefit from a new affordable housing project being built in the heart of Gosford.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch attended the topping out of the 38-unit development at 357-359 Mann Street today, being delivered through the NSW Government’s $1.1 billion Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF).

“This project will not only give vulnerable people a place to call home, it will also provide them with the wrap-around support they need to improve their health and general wellbeing,” Mr Crouch said.

“The construction work at this site has been powering along during COVID-19, helping keep tradies and local workers employed.”

Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Gareth Ward said the project includes a mix of housing options, close to transport, shops and services.

“This project is part of a pipeline of new homes being delivered to support vulnerable people, by finding them a safe place to call home and connecting them to the services they need,” Mr Ward said.

The SAHF is delivered in partnership with non-government community housing providers. Compass Housing is constructing the new homes and will manage them as part of a portfolio of nearly 500 properties it is delivering across NSW as part of the program.

Compass Housing Group Chief Corporate Services Officer Lyndall Robertshaw said the organisation will also deliver and manage support services for tenants.

“Providing people with the security and dignity of adequate housing is crucial, but SAHF is about more than just building houses. It’s also about creating empowered tenants and sustainable communities,” Ms Robertshaw said.

Tenants are expected to move into the new homes at 357-359 Mann Street, North Gosford by May 2021.

Across the Central Coast, 243 new social and affordable housing properties are currently being delivered by the NSW Government.
