Concerns have been raised about beach safety on the Central Coast after it was revealed the shark listening station at Killcare Beach has been inoperable since just before Christmas and has yet to be repaired.
Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said it was yet again another example of the Minns Labor Government’s failure to take shark mitigation seriously.
“At one of the busiest times of the year for our beaches, this failure has left thousands of swimmers and families without a key level of protection and has dramatically increased the burden on volunteer lifesavers at Killcare.”
“To think that we have had a shark listening station inoperable since just before Christmas and no action taken is simply unacceptable,” Mr Crouch said.
“Shark listening stations play a critical role in the shark mitigation program, and there still is yet to be a clear explanation or update from the Minister on this issue.”
The situation has also raised serious questions about the operational status of other shark listening stations across the Central Coast.
“The Minns Labor Government inherited a world-class shark mitigation program from the former Liberal National Government, and now they’re trashing it,” Mr Crouch said.
“Our community expects that this listening station be fixed immediately, and the Minister must provide an update on the status of the entire shark monitoring network.”
