Local residents are invited to have their say on a proposal to improve safety on the Pacific Highway at Catherine Hill Bay.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the NSW Government was investing $1.02 million to reduce the risk of crashes at the intersection of Flowers Drive and Cams Wharf Road.
“There is an immediate need to improve safety at this intersection, with more than 25,000 motorists travelling along the Pacific Highway daily,” Mr Crouch said.
“Unfortunately, there have been six crashes recorded at this intersection in the five years to June 2018, including one fatality and four injuries.
“The proposed safety improvements would involve extending the median wire rope barrier on the highway to ban right turns into Flowers Drive, and from Flowers Drive and Cams Wharf Road onto the highway.
“Motorists entering and exiting the highway would be redirected to intersections with traffic lights and safer merging lanes at Montefiore Street and Nords Wharf Road, significantly reducing the risk of crashes.”
Motorists will still be permitted to turn right into Cams Wharf Road from the Pacific Highway.
In addition to the proposed changes, Transport for NSW will install new directional signage on the Pacific Highway, Cams Wharf Road and on Flowers Drive.
Community members are encouraged to provide feedback on these proposed safety improvements via email to csehunter@rms.nsw.gov.au or via post to Flowers Drive project team, Transport for NSW, Locked Bag 2030, Newcastle NSW 2300 before Friday, 11 December.
All feedback will be carefully considered by Transport for NSW.
