The NSW Government has today awarded $82,750 to Central Coast Council to undertake dune stabilisation and restoration works across the region.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast Adam Crouch said the funding boost would enable Council to carry out regeneration and dune stabilisation activities, as well as targeted weed management along the coastline.
“Revegetating dunes is a simple but effective way of retaining sand on our beaches and reducing the impacts of coastal erosion,” Mr Crouch said.
“Council submitted a compliant application through the Coastal and Estuary Grant Program, and the NSW Government is pleased to provide this funding.”
The funding will be split between nine sites:
– Hargraves Beach (Noraville),
– Shelly Beach,
– Forresters Beach,
– Wamberal Lagoon,
– The Ruins (Wamberal),
– Winney Bay (Copacabana),
– Putty Beach (Killcare),
– Pearl Beach, and
– Umina Beach.
Central Coast Council Administrator Dick Persson AM said the funding provided by the NSW Government will help Council undertake targeted weed management, regeneration and dune stabilisation activities across some of the Coast’s most vulnerable beaches.
“Central Coast beaches are amongst the most dynamic on the east coast of Australia. Pearl Beach, Umina Beach, Putty Beach, Winney Bay, Wamberal Lagoon, Forresters Beach, Shelly Beach and Hargraves Beach in particular have all been identified as areas in need of restoration,” Mr Persson said.
“We are thankful for this funding contribution which will see Council remove invasive weeds and replenish the dunes with native species to improve their natural defence against severe weather events.”
