The long-awaited Mariyung Intercity train fleet has entered service on the Newcastle and Central Coast line following years of union-initiated delays.
The new fleet includes a variety of features for commuters including charging ports, tray tables, dedicated spaces for luggage, prams and bicycles while also allowing for greater travel options for those with disability or mobility issues.
Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch has welcomed the rollout of the new Mariyung Intercity trains saying it would be great news for commuters.
“This new multi-billion-dollar train fleet was delivered to the Central Coast by the former Liberal-National Government, and it is fantastic to see our commuters finally benefiting from these state-of-the-art trains, in spite of objections from the local Labor MPs while in opposition.”
“The introduction of the new Mariyung Intercity fleet is welcome news to all our local commuters following years of unnecessary delay from unions.”
“Over 12.7 million trips were taken on the Central Coast and Newcastle Line last year and I am sure those numbers will continue to grow with the introduction of these fantastic new trains.”
The operation of the new intercity fleet will complement the former Liberal-National government’s delivery of the $300 million Kangy Angy Rail Maintenance Facility, which will around 100 jobs for locals for the next two decades.
