The Killcare Shark Listening Station remains offline and missing as the Central Coast heads into the Australia Day long weekend, raising serious concerns about beach safety.

Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the Minns Labor Government’s failure to act was irresponsible, particularly following shark attacks along the NSW east coast.

“Given these confronting shark attacks, combined with the recent weather conditions, it is more important than ever that we have a strong shark management program,” Mr Crouch said.

“Right now, that isn’t the case. The Minns Labor Government doesn’t even know where the Killcare Shark Listening Station is, despite being alerted by the community that it had come free from its mooring.”

Mr Crouch said the ongoing inaction meant beachgoers, visitors and volunteer lifesavers were being left without access to critical, up-to-date safety information.

“This needs to be addressed immediately so beachgoers and visitors can have peace of mind and access the most up-to-date information about shark movements along our coastline,” he said.

“It is simply unacceptable that four weeks after the shark listening station at Killcare went out of action, there has still been no effort to restore this vital safety infrastructure.”
