More than $7 million of school maintenance work has been carried out at Central Coast public schools over the recent school holiday period.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the work was part of the NSW Government’s billion dollar commitment to eliminate the maintenance backlog.
“A total of $7,779,802 has been spent on local school facility improvements in the last few weeks alone, with work including painting, flooring and re-roofing,” Mr Crouch said.
“Every single child deserves access to great school facilities, and this is exactly what we are delivering.
“This work also provides jobs for local tradies and contractors at a critical time for our local economy.”
Mr Crouch said every student would attend school for one day per week from Monday, 11 May onwards.
“Each school has communicated to families how the gradual return to face-to-face learning will take place throughout Term 2,” Mr Crouch said.
“I know that parents and children are both excited and relieved for face-to-face learning to begin on Monday, and I also want to thank our Central Coast teachers who are doing a fantastic job in such a difficult time.”
The NSW Government is investing $6.7 billion over four years to deliver more than 190 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. In addition, a record $1.3 billion is being spent on school maintenance over five years, along with a record $500 million for the sustainable Cooler Classrooms program to provide air conditioning to schools. This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.
