Free Dental Checks for Primary School Kids

Primary school students are getting their teeth checked for free in new mobile clinics that visit Central Coast schools, setting them up for a lifetime of good dental health.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said a new Dental Van had been acquired by the Central Coast Local Health District as part of the NSW Government’s $70 million Primary School Mobile Dental Program.

“We want all kids, particularly those in more disadvantaged areas of our community, to get the best start in life. Good dental health is an important part of this,” Mr Crouch said.

“We know that thousands of children are admitted to hospital each year with potentially preventable dental conditions, and the Primary School Mobile Dental Program aims to reduce this.

“This $70 million program began in July 2019 and will see 35 mobile Dental Vans provide checks and basic dental care to 136,000 primary school children across NSW.

“Schools on the Central Coast to benefit include Ettalong, Gorokan, Kanwal, Lake Munmorah and Wadalba Public Schools, as well as Gorokan Preschool.”

The Primary School Mobile Dental Program is an election commitment of the NSW Government and involves portable dental equipment and fully-equipped Dental Vans being established on school grounds to provide dental check-ups, teeth cleans and dental decay x-rays.
