$26 Million Infrastructure Boost To Help The Central Coast Grow

The Central Coast is set to benefit from more than $26 million in NSW Government funding for improvements to water infrastructure and local roads.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the funding for Central Coast Council would deliver new sewerage infrastructure in the booming Gosford CBD.

“This significant amount of funding will go towards the vital yet largely unseen infrastructure needed to help the Central Coast community grow,” Mr Crouch said.

“Between 2016 and 2041 the region’s population is expected to increase by 95,250, and we need to provide the essential infrastructure to accommodate this growth now.

“$25.5 million will support sewerage gravity mains, sewerage pressure mains, two new pumping stations and an upgrade to an existing pumping station supporting 5,000 new homes in the Gosford CBD.

“Another $800,000 will be spent at Louisiana Road, Hamlyn Terrace to improve stormwater drainage and road safety, including culverts to manage flooding, road reconstruction, lighting and a shared path.

“$500,000 is also being allocated to begin planning for the Chain Valley Bay Road intersection upgrade, which will provide safer access to the Pacific Highway and unlock the opportunity for more homes in the northern part of our region.”

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said the projects were supported by the NSW Government’s Housing Acceleration Fund and the Voluntary Planning Agreements (VPA) Program.

“The Housing Acceleration Program is a $1.3 billion fund for 56 transport, water, wastewater, drainage and community infrastructure projects in metro and regional areas to accelerate housing delivery,” Mr Stokes said.

“The VPA program provides funding from development contributions to councils and state agencies to help deliver State infrastructure including roads, regional open space and social infrastructure and facilities.”

This new funding totalling $26.8 million builds on a $42 million funding announcement made by the NSW Government in 2018 for water and sewer upgrades in Gosford and Warnervale, two of the region’s growth hotspots.
